Volunteer Growers Help - Growth stages and what needs doing -
Just showing through>  - DOUBLE SETS OF LEAVES -  Transplanting> Multiple Leaves> Root Pruning & Thinning> Mature seedlings>

You are satisfied that most seedlings that you will get, are growing. Note that for many species the subsequent sets of leaves are different to the first set.

This is the stage for transplanting seedlings into those empty tubes.  Do not leave it any later as you will find that the roots are so large they cannot be moved.
One example of root length >

Because not all transplants are successful, if you have sufficient seedlings put two in opposite corners of each tube. Before you discard any excess plants to check with your Area Co-ordinator to see if anyone else in the same growing lot can make use of them. Occasionally if you all have one variety doing well and another with a very poor strike rate, the grower may be willing to take more of the species with the better strike rate. Never ever give your excess plants to another grower without checking first, especially if your friend up the street is growing for another landowner, seeds are always sourced  to maintain the local species where they are to be planted.
